Dear Expectant Mom,

Not everyone has the same idea about what makes a prenatal vitamin the best. Some women look for a vitamin that is easy on their stomach, some look for a high dose of folic acid, some want a vitamin that is safe for both mom and baby, some want a vitamin that requires swallowing only one small pill, while still others are looking for a vitamin that is designed to give them the perfect nutrients in the perfect dosage for their particular stage of pregnancy.

So what should you really be looking for to find the best prenatal vitamin?

1. Folic Acid is an important part of prenatal nutrition. Including a recommended 600 mcg of Folic acid has been proven to reduce neural tube defects (spina bifida). Not all prenatals have absorbable forms of folic acid, so be careful. All it takes is a supplement which includes folic acid that is not compacted too tightly which can often happen in tablet form.

2. Acceptable amounts of Vitamin A. Taking too much Vitamin A during pregnancy (in the retinol form) has been shown to cause birth defects. Natural forms of Vitamin A, like beta-carotene, are needed during pregnancy and are acceptable if under 10,000 IUs per day.

3. Calcium is vital to a woman's health, especially during pregnancy. Not all of the daily recommended amount of calcium can be found in a prenatal vitamin, but it is important to have increased support during the second and third trimesters.

4. The right amount of iron in a non-irritating form. Many women feel sick as a result of the iron in their prenatal vitamin. Iron is important to prevent anemia and should be taken during pregnancy.

5. Increased Vitamin B6 during the first trimester is helpful in a prenatal because it can combat morning sickness.

6. The right amount of Vitamin C to help your body absorb iron and Vitamin C also boosts your immune system.

7. A healthy dose of Zinc during pregnancy can reduce the risk of low birth weight, increase infant immune systems, and help to build fetal body tissue.

Avoiding the Dangers of Poor Quality Prenatal Vitamins

Make Sure Nutrients are Readily Absorbable

Many prenatal vitamins are in tablet form, which can be compressed too tightly, causing the tablet to fail to break down for absorption as it should. Tablets are often coated with carnauba wax which can further complicate absorption. Because we use only the finest quality vitamins and minerals in Promise Prenatal, we make sure that everything it contains is available for absorption. Promise Prenatal is enclosed in a capsule that is designed to release all of the vitamins and minerals it contains within five minutes of being swallowed.

Avoid Prenatal Vitamins with Excess or Wrong Ingredients

Often vitamins and minerals used during pregnancy are based on recommendations that are long outdated or they include ingredients that have not been proven safe during pregnancy. For example, Vitamin A should be only 100% beta carotene and never in excess. Most obstetricians also suggest avoiding herbs during pregnancy because their safety has not been proven and some have been linked to birth defects. Promise Prenatal was designed by a board of physicians, pharmacists, and dietary experts using only the very latest recommendations from leading institutes such as the National Institutes of Health. Promise Prenatal does not contain any artificial colors or preservatives and is composed of only vitamins and minerals in the exact right amounts from the most beneficial sources.

Omega-3 DHA - The Right Concentration and a Safe Source

The benefits of taking omega-3 DHA before, during, and after pregnancy are truly amazing. The problem is that it takes a highly concentrated form of omega-3 DHA to achieve these benefits. Omega-3 DHA intakes should average 200 - 300 mg per day, which would normally require several doses of a lower quality omega-3 supplement. Promise DHA includes 275 mg of DHA in only one soft gel and does not require you to take high concentrations of EPA (which is recommended at lower levels than that of DHA) to get the recommended amount of DHA. Promise DHA is guaranteed to be safe and pure because it contains only pharmaceutical-grade oil. This means every batch of Promise DHA is molecularly distilled to concentrate and purify the oil and is then tested to ensure that is free from contaminants such as mercury, heavy metals, and PCBs

The Promise Prenatal Advantage:

Unique Optimal Nutrient Balance-

The nutrient levels in Promise Prenatal meet the National Institute of Health's current recommendations for each stage of pregnancy.

Gentle, Micro-encapsulated Iron-

To minimize nausea during pregnancy, it is very important to take a gentle form of iron which you will find in all three Promise Prenatal Stages.

Exceeds the USP Standard for Dissolution of Folic Acid-

A recent study showed that 67% of prenatal vitamins failed to meet this standard. This is important because folic acid can prevent neural tube defects during your first trimester.

Small, Easy-to-Swallow Capsule-

Only one Promise Stages capsule each day provides recommended vitamins and minerals you need! We listened to you and designed a prenatal vitamin that is easy to swallow and doesn't require multiple daily doses.

Promise DHA provides 100% of the omega-3 fatty acid DHA-

Studies show that infants born to mothers with higher blood levels of the omega-3 fatty acid DHA have advanced attention spans well into their second year of life.

Manufactured in the USA in an FDA Drug-Approved Facility-

Rarely is a prenatal vitamin such as Promise Prenatal manufactured to the same FDA standards used for drugs. This helps to ensure quality and potency.

"I was introduced to Promise Stages by a very good friend. What I loved was... they did not make me sick like the prenatal vitamins I took with my daughter and I really felt better after taking them. Because they are set up in stages, I'm not overloaded with vitamins and minerals that I don't need and would otherwise make me sick. I will be taking Promise Stages prenatal vitamins during this pregnancy and any in the future."
